West Village Citizens for Preservation (WVCP) has formally filed a zoning challenge with the New York City Department of Buildings regarding the proposed Mission Building at St. Luke’s.
Beyond zoning compliance, this is also about safety, accountability, and long-term control. The proposed Mission Building introduces a permanent institutional structure into the center of an already constrained block, with no binding guarantees around future programming, operations, or security. Once built, the surrounding community would bear the impacts of decisions that could evolve over time, without enforceable protections.
WVCP will continue to advocate for a path forward that respects zoning, preserves open space, and protects the character and safety of the West Village.
